A bird in the hand

Sunnyvale, California

A few weeks ago, Mom got a blue jay to come to her ground-level hand and take a pinenut.
It would nervously approach, grab the pinenut and flee. I set the goal for myself of
having the bird stand on my held-aloft hand and eat, which it did for the first time
yesterday. I wanted to repeat the success for a photo. Cathy had a better idea: phoon at
the same time. Of course!

Phooner: me. Thanks to Cathy for the photo idea.
