Crystal pile

Kansoka, Zambia

Somewhere on the road from Lufwanyama

"While driving on an unmarked dirt road deeply carved out by the previous spring's rains,
our driver stopped the truck and pointed us to a hill. 'Climb up there and you'll find a
nice view and a bed of crystal formations.' There was a huge mountain of quartz crystals,
all sizes from 1/4 inch to feet long! Dug deep into the pile was an illegal diamond mine
accessible by a wooden ladder made of tree branches. We collected crystals but didn't find
any diamonds." --Lou
