Giant artichoke

"Artichoke capitol of the world," Castroville, California

"Nearly 29 years ago, we visited The Giant Artichoke in Castroville as we made our way up
California's Hwy. 101 on our honeymoon. In 1975 we sampled several of their
artichoke-based offerings and re-enjoyed our favorite on this return trip...deep-fried
artichoke hearts served with a dill/garlic mayonaise!

"This huge artichoke is made of cement and uses sharpened steel reinforcement rods as the
thorny tips. On seeing it again, I hugged it with joy anyway." --Jan
