Monkeypod tree

Oahu, Hawaii

Since the 1970s, a huge monkeypod tree in Hawaii has served as the Hitachi Group's
corporate symbol. The Hitachi Tree, as it's come to be known, resides in the Moanalua
Garden Park on Oahu. The tree regularly attracts busloads of tourists from Japan who want
to take a photo of the famous monkeypod tree and its large canopy. In order to ensure the
continued maintenance of the tree, in 2007 Hitachi agreed to pay the owner of the park
$400,000 a year for the next 10 years.

Thanks to Fumio, Yoko and Paul for phooning and to Yoko for the photo idea.
