Muffler Man
In front of a muffler shop, San Jose, CaliforniaEditor: I was walking toward the Muffler Man (see the description below) to take a picture
of me phooning in front of it when Sean and Jim walked out of an Indian Motorcycle store
where Jim works. "I'm taking a picture of that statue for the internet. You wanna be in
it?" Jim joyfully urged his son Sean to "go do it!" and then decided to join him. Startled
by their immediately taking off toward the statue, I rushed to point out that there was
more to the story--they'd have to stand like the figure on the Phoons business card I
pulled out my pocket. That didn't slow them down one bit. It was a treat for me to watch
Jim lovingly wrestle his son while they were preparing for the photo.
Something I didn't know until surfing the internet was that these Muffler Men (or Paul
Bunyans--same mould) are all over America. Check out Roadside America's wonderful Muffler
