Gustavus war memorial

Rantasalmi, Finland

"'One of the biggest battles of the so-called Gustavus war (1788-1790) took place here in
Parkuinmäki on July 21st 1789. Swedish king Gustavus the III initiated this war in order
to obtain Eastern Finland, which was lost to Russia in 1743, back to Sweden. Although
Sweden did not win the war, it succeeded at least in preventing Russia's constant
expansion towards west.

low!" --Timo

Met dank aan Timo voor het phoon-en (en voor het idee van de foto).
