Carnival

Lund, Sweden

"Every fourth year, the students of the University of Lund arrange a carnival called
Lundakarnevalen. The first was in 1849 and for some years after recurred in random
intervals. Starting in 1876, it happened every second year, but during the carnival 1892,
there was so much drinking that the 1894 carnival was cancelled. Since 1896, the carnival
has happened every fourth year (except during the world wars and a six-year interval
during the depression).

"From the beginning, a parade through Lund has been a part of the festivities." --Anders
