Villarrica Volcano

Chile

Editor: Mike travelled over 2500 miles (4000 km) in Chile. Be sure to check out his
amazing (non-Phoon) photos on his web site.

"Chile is a very long and narrow country. (See this map.) I didn't appreciate how long
until about half way through our three week trip (visualize travelling from Baja, Mexico
to Juneau, Alaska).

"Santiago, the capitol, is about in the middle of the country. Here's a rough time-line
of the Phoon photos:

  • 1/1/04 Villarrica Volcano, 760 km south of Santiago
  • 1/3/04 Osorno Volcano, 1024 km south of Santiago
  • 1/5/04 Torres del Paine, in Patagonia, 2000 km south of Santiago
  • 1/7/04 Salto Grande, also in Patagonia
  • 1/15/04 Petroglyphs, near Arica at the northern tip of Chile
  • 1/16/04 Cafe on the way up, on the way to Parinacota
  • 1/16/04 Parinacota Volcano, near the northern tip of Chile
  • "We plan to go back."

Thanks to Mike for phooning (and for the photo idea).
